Lab 7
The essential element of digital design

Telegraph Media Group launches Telegraph.co.uk Redesign

The new look Telegraph.co.uk website went live today.

Working closely with the internal design and technical teams, Lab 7 provided information architecture and visual design expertise.

TMG Digital editor, Edward Roussel, puts the aim of the redesign thus: “What we aspire to from an editorial and commercial perspective is a much deeper level of engagement so that each person that comes to the site not only reads news, business or sport but also sees the full gamut of content on the site”.

Paul Cheesbrough, Telegraph’s CTO, goes further stating the goals as “enriching the front end functionality to users, cleaning up the navigation and findability of content across the site and, like everyone, we are trying to make the most of monetising our content”.

With these points in mind, the new site provides a better balance between commercial real estate and user needs, with key areas set aside for advertising and commercial content.

From a users perspective the navigation is much improved. Gone is the mixture of horizontal and vertical, replaced with a much simplified horizontal version. The site also provides embedded video in stories, and flexible homepage and section pages, that allow the content to shine.

Coupled with back-end changes, the redesign will try to cement Telegraph’s position as the fastest growing Newspaper site in the UK.
